Manx Information and Pricing
![]() | ![]() |
Manx, or tailless, rats are a relatively rare variety. They are difficult to breed, and they can have skeletal structure problems, and bladder problems. Females can have difficulties in the birthing process. We work VERY hard only to breed and produce rats WITHOUT these malformations, allowing them to be the best possible pets. No manx that has ANY issues with bladder, tumors, or movement will be bred.
~~~~~
These rats are GENETIC manx- we do NOT dock their tails. They were intentionally bred for this trait, and are born missing a tail. Their body shape is slightly different than that of a regular rat, or one who has been docked. We do not encourage or endorse docking, and think it is inhumane and disgusting.
~~~~~
In order to assist in our goals of keeping the manx as healthy and sound as possible, we have to decided to impart mandatory spays on ANY tailless rat prior to leaving our rattery. Reputable breeders excepted.
In addition to permanent sterilization, spaying also reduces the instance of tumors and other health problems, and allows them to live happily in cages with males OR females.
~~~~~
Rats will be spayed at approximately 14 weeks of age, depending on the preferences of the vet.
~~~~~
We use Dr. Koob at Idaho Humane Society Veterinary Clinic for alterations. If you would prefer to use a different vet, as long as they are a good rat vet, I will drop the rat off at the appointment.
~~~~~
Costs are as follows:
Adoption fee: $50 *and*
Alteration fee: $50, which is what IHS charges for a spay. It can be paid to me, if I pick up the rat, or to the vet directly. If the adopter chooses a different vet, they will be responsible for the fees. Any additonal costs charged by the vet in relation to the spay are also the adopter's responsibilty.
